In my own words

When I am at my best, I see the connection before anyone else does: the right expert for the stubborn problem, the right partner for the ingredient nobody knows yet, the right words for the science a brand cannot explain. I make the introduction, frame the win so everyone sees their own, and pour in belief until the thing moves.

  • Generosity

That paragraph is not self-description. It is a summary of what 21 clients, partners, and 20-year colleagues wrote when I asked them, through a Harvard Business Review researched exercise, what I actually do. Their repeated words: connector, generative optimism, speed, foresight, generosity.

The background behind the words: 35 years turning science and ideas into products people buy, from launching Wellmune beta-glucan as a branded ingredient to guiding hundreds of product launches and dozens of branded ingredients across retail, e-commerce, and healthcare practitioner channels. Founder of HealthCar LLC. Advisor to ingredient innovators across the US, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

My operating philosophy is sequencing. Serve first, success follows. Brand comes before marketing. Marketing comes before the promotional mix. Awareness precedes sales, and regulatory clarity precedes partner conversations. Companies waste one to two years skipping steps. My job is making sure yours does not.

The name

Why the name HealthCar

I bought my first Porsche for $2,300, fixed it up, sold it, and kept going: fixing, tuning, trading up for decades, until the day I drove my dream car, a new high-performance 911 Carrera, and could honestly say the cash I ever laid out was $2,300 rolled forward.

That is how I treat companies. Find what is extraordinary under the hood, get it running the way it was built to run, and keep rolling the gains forward. Health plus Car is not a quirky name. It is the method.

Before HealthCar

The agency era

I spent three decades building and leading the health and nutrition practice of a national media relations agency, working shoulder to shoulder with the industry’s founding generation. Three years ago I founded HealthCar to serve companies beyond publicity: strategy and execution across the whole commercialization journey. Many of my clients still work with my former agency for publicity and digital, and I like it that way.

Helping first

Away from the desk

And the part no one pays for but everyone mentions: I genuinely want the people around me to win. Thirty-five years in, the network that built my business was built by helping first. Still is. Give me a garden, a garage, or a country I have not seen, and I am happy.

Purpose

Why I do this

Early in my career, a physician client told me something I never forgot: in his office he could help a dozen patients a day, but the media work we did together reached hundreds of thousands of people a week, in a voice they trusted, waking people up to become captains of their own healthcare. I have been chasing that multiplication ever since.

In 1993, the call was carrying trusted voices to millions. Today, it is carrying trusted companies into the AI platforms where their customers now search, and trusted judgment into their rooms.

And what do I get out of it? A formula a friend taught me: happiness is enjoyment plus satisfaction plus meaning, in that order. This work pays all three. I enjoy the people. I find satisfaction watching believed-in projects outrun funded ones. And the meaning arrives every time a trajectory changes because the right people found each other at the right table.
